Gloria Jean Massey Derr, age 69, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at Sovah Health – Martinsville. She was born on April 4, 1955, in Martinsville to the late Layman “Jack” Massey and Marie Earles Massey. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother Donald T. Massey.

A bright and accomplished woman, Gloria graduated at the top of her class at G.W. Carver High School and later from National Business College in Roanoke, Virginia. She attended Rich Acres Baptist Church and had a love for worshipping God. Gloria’s love for God and her family was evident in every aspect of her life.

She had a deep affection for her cats, whom she cherished as her "fur babies." A talented musician, she enjoyed playing the piano and had a passion for music. In her younger years, Gloria was known for her elegant sense of style, love of dancing, and adventurous spirit. She delighted in traveling, especially to the beach, and to Niagara Falls as a memorable highlight. Sweet, shy, and gentle, she touched the lives of many with her quiet kindness.

Gloria is survived by her mother, Marie Earles Massey; her sisters, Deborah Massey, June Massey (Robert Henegar), and Jackie Massey Hall (Ronnie); her nieces and nephews, Eric Hodges, Krystal Hall, Josh Hazlewood, and Chase Hazlewood; three great nieces and two great-nephews; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 3:00 p.m. at Ross Harbour United Methodist Church, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Ross Harbour United Methodist Church Cemetery.
