Obituaries

Jackie Lee McGuire Byrd, 74, of Ridgeway, Virginia, ran into the arms of Jesus Friday, July 18, 2025. She was born January 12, 1951, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Charlie Daniel McGuire and Lila Mae Minter McGuire.

Jackie entered her heavenly rest one day before being joined by her loving husband of 42 years, Kenneth Nolen Byrd. She was also predeceased by her sisters, Betty Matherly and Barbara Ann McGuire; and her brothers, C.D. McGuire and Harvey McGuire.

She graduated from Fieldale-Collinsville High School, class of 1969, and entered the work force as a dedicated employee in the textile industry.

Jackie was of the Christian faith and was faithful in attendance and service to Axton Baptist Church. It was here that she found a loving faith community and a place to use her God-given gifts to serve the body of Christ. In her leisure time she enjoyed completing word-search puzzles and watching soap operas.

Her greatest accomplishments were found in raising their children; daughter, Lisa Wells (Tony) and son, Steven Byrd (Tiffany Hudgins) who will forever cherish her memory. Also left to carry on her legacy of love and faith are her grandchildren, Sierra Cochran (Jerry, III), Cole Watson (Ari), Matthew Byrd, Aidan Byrd-Hudgins; six great-grandchildren; special nieces, Audrey Price and Lisa Holiday (Ricky); and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Jackie Byrd’s memory to Axton Baptist Church.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Axton Baptist Church, located at 173 Mountain Valley Road, Axton, Virginia, with Pastor Chris Robertson officiating.
