Obituaries

Jo Ann Brittingham Arnold, 96, of Martinsville, Virginia passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025. She was born January 17, 1929, in Schenectady, New York to the late Joseph Benjamin Brittingham Jr. and Anna Estelle Smith Brittingham.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Reverend Jack Hampton Arnold and son, John Hampton Arnold.

Jo Ann was of the Christian faith and a member of the United Methodist Conference; with her home church being Central United Methodist Church of Hampton, Virginia. She loved the Lord and was devoted to her work within the church. She was an avid artist who served as a Reproductionist with the National Gallery in Washington, D.C. where she loved working with Italian artists. In her free time, she enjoyed anything that had to do with nature, such as bird watching, moon gazing, gardening, and animals. Jo Ann was known for her kind, sweet, loving, and serving heart; always thinking of others before herself.

She is survived by her daughters, Catherine Anne Schmitt (Michael) and Mary Ann Mason (Jeff); grandchildren, Jessica Lynn Berry and Mackenzie Ann Engel (John); and great-grandchild, Elizabeth Grace Berry.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Olive Branch Cemetery in Portsmouth, Virginia.
