Obituary For Kenneth Nolen Byrd

Kenneth Nolen Byrd, 71, of Ridgeway, Virginia, met Jesus face-to-face Saturday, July 19, 2025. He was born March 18, 1954, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late James Nolen Byrd and Shirlie Jean Branch Shaw.

In addition to his parents, Kenneth was predeceased by his loving wife of 42 years, Jackie Lee McGuire Byrd; and his sister, Vickie Byrd.

He attended Fieldale-Collinsville High School and worked for most of his life in the textile industry. In his spare time, he could be found fishing or playing pool; he enjoyed the sport and played on a pool team for many years.

Kenneth was of the Christian faith and was a faithful member of Axton Baptist Church where he attended for many years. He used his gifts to serve the Lord by running the audio/sound system, helping with the weekly bulletins, and assisting with the Awana’s ministry. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his children, grandchildren, and extended family. The legacy of faith he left for his family will always be a special part of their lives and of their memories of Kenneth. He lived with the hope of eternity in his heart and has received his eternal reward.

Left to honor and cherish his memory are his daughter, Lisa Wells (Tony); son, Steven Byrd (Tiffany Hudgins); sister, Robin Byrd; brothers, Dickie Byrd, Jay Byrd (Denise), Billy Byrd (Sheri); grandchildren, Sierra Cochran (Jerry, III), Cole Watson (Ari), Matthew Byrd, Aidan Byrd-Hudgins; six great-grandchildren, Goddaughter, Brianna Fulp; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to their special Uncle Bill and Aunt Kathy Hall for the love and care they provided for Kenneth in his later years.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Kenneth Byrd’s memory to Axton Baptist Church.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Axton Baptist Church, located at 173 Mountain Valley Road, Axton, Virginia, with Pastor Chris Robertson officiating.

Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
