Obituaries

Lucy Matherly Morris, age 88, of Martinsville, Virginia, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, North Carolina.

Born on May 15, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Fletcher L. Matherly and Bessie Hodges Matherly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glenn Morris, her siblings, Mary Elizabeth Younce, Lewhy Matherly, Posey “Dot” Matherly, George Thomas ‘GT” Matherly, Robert Lee Matherly, Fairy Shively, Joan “Joann” Carter, Virgina Foley, and James Irvin “Jimmy” Matherly; and her loving grandson-in-law, Dustin West.

Lucy was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Collinsville. She cherished her family deeply, holding a special place in her heart for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to treasure her memory are her daughter, Robin McBride (Mark); two grandchildren, Mark "Steven" McBride, Jr. (Tanya) and Ashley Lane McBride-West; and three great-grandchildren, Alaina MacKenzie McBride (West), Kaylin MaKenna West, and Connor Grey West. She is also survived by one step-great-grandchild, Liam Davis, two sisters, Irene Nelson and Betty Jane East; as well as several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Bassett Funeral Service with Pastor David Bryant officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
