Obituary For Lula Mae "Lou" Largen Massey

Lula Mae “Lou” Largen Massey, 83, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 21, 2025, at Franklin Health and Rehabilitation in Rocky Mount, Virginia. Born on November 23, 1941, in Laurel Fork Carroll County, Virginia, Lou was the daughter of the late Ray P. Largen and Winnie Thomas Largen. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, David Massey; her son, David Lee Massey; two brothers, Michial James Largen and Teddy R. Largen; and her sister, Willadean Nester.

A devoted member of Stone Memorial Christian Church, Lou was actively involved in her earlier years, participating in the Bell Choir and volunteering with Vacation Bible School. Lou retired from Stanley Furniture, where she worked in the office for many years. She had a warm and generous spirit, never meeting a stranger—by the end of a conversation, everyone felt like family. Known for her kindness, she was always grateful for even the smallest acts of kindness shown to her.

Lou cherished time with her family, especially during annual vacations and shopping trips with the girls. She had a lifelong love of sports, playing softball in her younger years and becoming a passionate fan of ACC basketball, as a dedicated UVA Cavaliers fan.

She leaves behind her loving daughters, Donna Wickline (Jeff) of Collinsville, Virginia, and Debbie Kerr (Jeff) of Buena Vista, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Jessica Hylton (Justin) of Bassett, Virginia, Grant Wickline (Lindsey) of Bassett, Virginia, Hillary Camden (J.D.) of Buena Vista, Virginia, John-David Kerr (Destinee) of Lexington, Virginia, Taylor Massey of Ridgeway, Virginia, Gabby Massey of Lakeland, Florida, and Brooklyn Massey of Blacksburg, Virginia; ten great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Iola Hubbard of Meadows of Dan; special friends, Lorene and Dewey Hall; her beloved canine companion, Lexi; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Stone Memorial Christian Church. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Stone Memorial Christian Church, officiated by Minister Tim Wood and Elder Jerry Nester. Interment will follow at Plaster's Family Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family request memorial contributions be made to Stone Memorial Christian Church, 3030 Virginia Ave., Collinsville, VA 24078

Bassett Funeral Service is honored to serve the Massey family.
