Obituaries

Margaret Frances East, 88, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 21, 2025. Born on January 18, 1937, in Henry County, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Welburn Bowman and Maggie Spencer Bowman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Williams East; her son, Rodney Manning; four brothers, James Bowman, Clifford Bowman, Carl Bowman, and David Bowman; and her sister, Nannie Mae Turner.

Margaret was of the Baptist faith and dedicated many years of service to Vanity Fair before retiring. A passionate NASCAR fan, she loved attending races and watching them on television. Above all, she cherished caring for her family and spending time with her loved ones and friends.

She is survived by her son, Randy Manning (Karen) of Martinsville, Virginia; two daughters, Donna Dupree of Roanoke, Virginia, and Sandra Blevins of Fieldale, Virginia; six grandchildren, Matthew Manning, Amy Linkous, Tanner Gilbert, Clarissa Manning, Trenton Manning, and India Manning; one brother, Wade Bowman of Bassett, Virginia; one sister, Boonie Hancock of Bassett, Virginia; as well as extended family members and dear friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, officiated by Pastor Jason Alverson. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Old Center Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

After the service the family will receive friends for a time of fellowship at the home of Margaret East.
