Obituaries

Mildred Hairston Adams, 79, of Martinsville, passed on Thursday, August 18, 2022, at her residence. She was born July 6, 1943, in Henry County, to the late George and Sadie Matthews Hairston. She had been employed by Tultex and Food Lion. She loved to play Bingo, shopping and cooking.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sherwood Adams; son, General Grant Martin, Jr.; sister, Carolyn Stockton; and brother, James Hairston.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Robin Benton; son, Robert Stockton; sisters, Sadie Washington, Florence Hairston and Shirley Slade; brother, George Hairston, Jr.; grandchildren, Ashley Stockton, Tarika Preston (Nelson), Miquell Stockton (Monica), Robert Stockton, Jr., and Grant Martin (Kayla); and a host of great-grandchildren.

The service will be Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at 3:00 pm at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with visitation one hour prior to the service. A floating visitation will be Tuesday, August 23, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
