Obituaries

On Monday, October 10, 2022, Nancy Elizabeth Hairston Shropshire, known affectionately as “Auntie” transitioned into the majestic presence of God.

Nancy was born August 5, 1945, in Bassett, Virginia, to the late John Hairston and Mary Wells Hairston. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband, Jimmie Shropshire; and brother James Russell Hairston.

Nancy, along with her husband were Independent Owners/Operator Truck Drivers. They traveled cross-country for thirty-five years. When home from driving, she enjoyed planting flowers and spending time with family, as well as listening to music.

Her greatest joy was sharing the love of Christ. Nancy (Auntie) always gave encouraging words and shared God’s unconditional love with all. Her ability to listen and love made her a safe place for counsel and understanding.

She attended Victory Tabernacle in Garner, NC, and was a part of the SALT (Seniors Always Learning Together) Ministry.

She is survived by sisters, Littie Hooker (William “Bill”) and Sarah Ross (Charles). Cherishing her memory will be a host of nieces and nephews. Her special relationship with nephew Terry Shropshire allowed her to become Godmother to Ranquan Shropshire. Also carrying her memory close to her heart will be two special nieces/caregivers, Rita, and Edith.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 12:30 P. M. at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be thirty minutes prior to the service.

This is not goodbye, and we certainly have not “lost” Nancy because we know, understand, and believe that she is now in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ.
