Obituaries

Robert Lee “Bob” Hairston, 73, of Martinsville, Virginia transitioned from this earthly home Tuesday, January 28, 2025. He was born February 9, 1951, in Henry County to the late Ned R Hairston and Bessie Jane Hairston Hairston.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, James (Chig) Hairston, Randolph (Andy) Hairston, Zacheriah (Zack) Hairston, Richard (Red) Hairston, Rufus Hairston, Rudolph (Tootie) Hairston, and George Hairston.

Robert was a member of Zion Hill Church. He was a 1970 graduate of George Washington Carver High School. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, playing guitar at church and home and watching Nascar. He was a Dallas Cowboys Fan and coached ladies’ softball. Robert loved spending time with his family and grandbabies.

He is survived by his loving wife of forty seven years, Emma Hairston; daughters, Tammy King of Collinsville, Virginia and Selina King of Ridgeway, Virginia; son, Robert B.J. Hairston (Lana) of Bassett, Virginia; sisters, Christine Dillard Mullins and Josephine Hairston; brothers, L. Tyrone Hairston (Gwen) of Martinsville, Virginia, Billy Ray Hairston (Valerie) of Martinsville, Virginia, Michael J. Hairston of Dillwyn, Virginia; grandchildren, Sherika Hairston (Jeffery), Britney King, DeMarco King, Daisha Hairston, and Zuri Hairston; great grandchildren, Ny’Tavis, Samiya, Kaliyah, Tyhiem Jr., Mariah; and God daughter, Regina Martin (Antwan).

The funeral will be held on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held one half hour prior to the service. A floating visitation will be held on Saturday, February 1st, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM.
