Obituaries

Samuel Gilmer Clifton, 85, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at his home. He was born on March 29, 1937, in Patrick County to the late Samuel Evans Clifton and the late Lillie Morrison Clifton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Carlis Clifton and Lilbern Clifton; sisters, Lucy Lawson and Judy Dalton.

Samuel was a member of Collinsville Church of Christ and he attended Patrick Henry Community College. He was an Army National Guard veteran and a retired supervisor from the State of Virginia after many years of service.

Samuel is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dixie Woehlke Clifton; sons, Gregory Clifton (Kimberly) and Mark A. Clifton, Sr. (Meifei Liu); grandchildren, Addison Clifton, Mark A. Clifton, Jr. and Kristen Clifton Anderson (Seth); 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, Gene Clifton, Kenneth Clifton and Danny Clifton; sister, Gertrude Pendleton; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 7, 2022, from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, where a funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM with the Pastor Jonathon Beavers officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park in Martinsville.
