Obituaries

Samuel Mayes Taylor, 87, of Spencer, Virginia, entered his heavenly rest Sunday, March 23, 2025. He was born May 7, 1937, in Spencer, Virginia, to the late Thomas Clarence Taylor and Sallie Mae Patterson Taylor.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Kimberly Dawn Taylor Torelli; and brothers, Thomas Green and Reid Taylor.

Sam was of the Christian faith and faithfully loved and supported Mayo Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. His life made a lasting impact on the many people he spent time teaching and mentoring throughout the years. He proudly served his country in the US Airforce while being stationed four years in Alaska. Although he loved working on the family farm, it paled in comparison to the love he had for his family. This was evidenced by his marriage of 60 years to his beloved wife, Rita; everyone who knew Sam witnessed how he lived to care for her. Their family grew to include two beautiful children and two precious grandchildren who were the absolute love of Sam’s life. Of all his accomplishments, he will most fondly be remembered as a loving father and provider for his family.

His legacy of faith and love will continue through his son, Samuel Andrew Taylor and daughter-in-law, Julie; grandchildren, Samuel Levi Taylor and Benjamin Thomas Taylor; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Mayo Baptist Church with Pastor Ricky Bates and Pastor Steve Doby officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the cemetery fund at Mayo Baptist Church.
