Obituary For Silas Keen

Silas Keen, 94, of Martinsville, VA transitioned on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at his home. He was born in Henry County, VA a son of the late Edgar and Nannie Terry Keen on June 23, 1930. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Lois Roy Keen; three brothers Ed, Wash, and Floyd Keen and three sisters, Mamie K. Adams, Thenie K. Redd and Helen K. Dixon Law.

He attended the Henry County public schools and served honorably in the U. S. Army where he received two Bronze Stars and a Korean Service Medal. Silas was retired from E. I. Dupont with 27 years of service and was a licensed electrician and plumber for 60 years. Silas worked alongside Elder Clarence Jamison to build numerous houses and churches throughout the area.

He joined Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church in 1960. He was ordained a Deacon in 1965 and served in the capacity of Chairman of the Deacon ministry for 30 years. Silas was also Chairman of the Trustee ministry. Deacon Keen also served as President of the Gospel Chorus, President of the Male Chorus and Coordinator of the Men's breakfast. He was also a member of the American Legion Homer Dillard Post # 78.

He leaves to cherish his memory: one son, Larry (Maria) Keen, of Virginia Beach, VA; two daughters, Vera (Clarence) Roney, of Chesterfield, VA and Sonya Keen, of Greensboro, NC; one brother, King Keen, of Axton, VA; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

A service of celebration will be held Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Waddell G. Jones, officiating. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park. The family will receive friends at the church one half hour prior to the funeral and will be at the home at 1737 Stoney Mountain Road at other times. A public viewing will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2025 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM at Hines Funeral Services.
