Obituaries

Stephen Daniel Joyce, 46, of Martinsville, Virginia, was welcomed into his heavenly home Saturday, December 13, 2025. He was born in Martinsville on March 23, 1979, to Daniel Maurice Joyce and Joan Elliott Joyce.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Milton Everette Elliott and Evelyn Hammack Elliott; and paternal grandfather, Harry Benton Joyce.

He was of the Christian Baptist faith and a member of Starling Avenue Baptist Church. He received his bachelor’s degree from Bluefield College and found meaningful work as the Youth Connect Foster Care Management. With a huge heart, he loved children and poured his energy into mentorship. Stephen was an avid sports fan, especially of the Washington Redskins and the L.A. Dodgers. Stephen was an Eagle Scout in Troop 62 for many years. But his greatest joy was in sharing his life with Heather Coleman Joyce, his loving wife of four years. She truly was the love of his life.

In addition to his parents, Stephen is survived by his wife of four years, Heather Coleman Joyce; stepsons, J. Evan Campos and Gavin C. Hutcherson; paternal grandmother, Mildred Sands Joyce; uncles, John Elliott (Judy) and J.B. Joyce; aunt, Joy Saunders (Bobby); sisters-in-law, Alison Holt (Brad) and Amanda Worrell (Mitch); brother-in-law, Jason Coleman (Jennifer); and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A visitation will be Wednesday, December 17, 2025, from 5:00-7:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel. A funeral service will be held Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Starling Avenue Baptist Church with ministers Tim Hylton and Angela Zimmerman officiating. Interment will follow at the Coleman Family Cemetery, Hidden Valley Drive, Martinsville, Virginia 24112.

The family requests that attendees wear their favorite sports memorabilia in honor of Stephen’s love for the Redskins and Dodgers.
