Obituaries

Sylvia Spencer Lewis, age 75, of Martinsville, Virginia passed away on Thursday, January 30, 2025. She was born August 22, 1949 in Henry County, Va. to Orris E. Spencer and Ruth Watkins Spencer.

Sylvia Spencer Lewis is survived by her husband, Michael Lewis of the home; her son, Tim Spencer and wife, Tomara Spencer of Oak Level, Va.; grandson Dillon Spencer and fiancée, Madison Holt; great granddaughter Elena Spencer of Martinsville, Va.; her daughter, Cindy Joyce and partner Mike Marion of Hamptonville, NC.; grandson, Connor Joyce of Wilmington, NC. Also, Stepson, Kelly Lewis and his wife, Nicole Dubrey; grandson, Zev Lewis, and granddaughter Norrie Lewis of Greensboro, NC. Also, stepdaughter, Erika Hall and husband Kory, and grandson Thomas Hall, of Kingston Springs, Tennessee; nephew (like a son to Sylvia and Michael), Brandon Spencer of Roanoke, Va. Sylvia is also survived by a brother, Alvin Spencer and family of Woolwine, Va., and a sister, Phyllis Smith and family of Salisbury, NC, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was a graduate of Patrick & Henry Community College with a degree in early childhood development. Her early career was devoted to managing food service businesses across the Commonwealth of Virginia. She was an excellent chef; she loved cooking and feeding large groups.

For the past 18 years, she has been employed as a bookkeeper and so much more for Simply the Best Flowers in Martinsville, Virginia.

Sylvia was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother for not only her family, but for any child that needed love and affection. She also loved to shop (particularly if it was on sale) and entertain family and friends.

Sylvia was a lover of the sun and sand; the Outer Banks of North Carolina was her happy place, and she camped there as often as she could. No matter what task she took on, she excelled greatly, and Sylvia will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at McKee-Stone Funeral Home and will be officiated by the Reverend Dr. Greg Hodges.
