Obituary For Terry Len Moore

Rev. Terry Len Moore, 68, of Martinsville, Virginia, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. He was born on November 28, 1956, to the late Earl Moore Sr. and the late Birtha Jones Moore.

Terry was raised on Sunset Drive in Bassett, Virginia—then affectionately known as “Shanty Town”—alongside six siblings. He was preceded in death by five of them: Aritha Moore Peatross, Earl Moore, Jr., Francine Moore Manns, Sandra Moore Estes, and Valarie Moore.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Myra Faulkner Moore of the home; his two loving sons, Courtenay Blake Moore of Jersey City, New Jersey, and Cameron Drew Moore of Richmond, Virginia; one brother, Harold Moore (Sarah) of Martinsville, Virginia; his brother-in-law, Buddy Lee Manns of Bassett, Virginia; and his father-in-law, Joe Faulkner of South Boston, Virginia.

Terry was a proud graduate of Henry County Public Schools and completed his secondary education at Bassett High School in 1975. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from St. Paul’s College in 1979, a Master’s degree in Pupil Personnel Services from Virginia Tech, and an advanced degree in Supervision & Administration from the University of Virginia. At the time of his passing, Terry was actively pursuing a Master of Divinity at Virginia Union University from the Samuel D. Proctor School of Theology.

Terry dedicated over two decades of service to the Franklin County Public School Division, working as an elementary school teacher, elementary guidance counselor, and high school guidance counselor. He later served as an assistant principal at Bassett High School in the Henry County Public Schools for three years. In addition to his work in education, Terry contributed to the mental health field as a youth mental health clinician with Dominion in Roanoke and, for nearly 13 years, as a clinician with Embrace Healthy Solutions (EHS) in Martinsville.

A man of deep faith, Terry was an associate minister and faithful member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in Martinsville, where he was known for his heartfelt preaching and uplifting singing.

Terry was an exemplary husband and father. He was always placing the needs of his family before himself. Working on his Chevrolet Chevelle, a good game of solitaire, and watching mystery shows were his favorite things to do. He enjoyed being a Philadelphia Eagles fan with his youngest son and watching his oldest son weekly on television. His wife was his favorite thing in the world and his devotion to her was unmatched.

He was also a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., embodying the fraternity's principles of scholarship, leadership, and service throughout his life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. at Moral Hill Missionary Baptist Church, with Bishop Todd Winston, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

Bassett Funeral Service is honored to serve the Moore family.
