Obituaries

Thomas Edward Wright, 85, of Fieldale, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at Sovah Health – Martinsville. He was born on December 3, 1939, in Hillsborough, North Carolina, to the late George Wright and Lilian McPherson Wright. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Taundra Wright Preston; the mother of his children, Elder Martha Wright; his son, Jeffery McPherson; six sisters, Fannie Wright Martin, Annabelle Clark, Pauline Brooks, Margaret Whitted, Janie Johnson, and Betty Whitted; and four brothers, George Wright Jr., Earl Wright, Gert Wright, and Curtis Wright.

Thomas was a member of Mebane Chapel in Hillsborough, NC, and he attended St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church with his family, for the last six years. He had a deep love for nature, especially feeding deer and birds. He also cherished sitting on the porch, enjoying the warmth of the sun. He found great joy in spending quality time with his family and friends, especially his beloved grandchildren. A devoted protector and provider, he took pride in caring for the women in his life — his sisters, daughters, and granddaughters — ensuring they always had what they needed to thrive.

He is survived by his two daughters, Minister Miyoshie Wright Hairston and Jonna Price Wright; his son, Marcus Wright (girlfriend, Laureen); seven grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marinda Wade and Lillian Wright; one brother, Otis Wright Sr.; two sisters-in-law, Florence Manns Preston and Rhonda Manns; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 1:00pm at St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Bobby Agnew, officiating. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service. The burial will be private.

Friends are welcome to visit with the family daily from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM, beginning December 13, 2024, through December 17, 2024, at the home of his daughter, Miyoshie Wright Hairston, located at 300 Edgewood Drive, Stanleytown, VA 24168.
