Obituaries

Vanessa Faye Porter, 61, of Martinsville, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022, at SOVAH Health of Martinsville. She was born January 9, 1961, in Martinsville, to the late James Melvin Hayes and Ola Virginia Porter Cunningham. She was a member of St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church, and enjoyed riding, Bingo and Pinochle.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Demarcus Porter; sisters, Evelyn Dalton, Virginia Harding and Melvin Arlene Porter.

Vanessa is survived by her sons, Corey Porter (Rebecca), Steven Porter and Jeffery Porter; sisters, Ruth Porter, Alice Ann Smith (Bobby) and Stephanie Holland; brothers, John Fitzgerald Holland and James Lamont Holland; grandchildren, Kristian Adams, Tristian Adams, Jonathan Thomas, Elijah Hairston, Janyasia Carter, Sariyah Carter and Jeffery Jr.; great-grandchildren, Allison Handy, Autumn Adams and Winter Adams; and best friend, Samuel Swanson.

The funeral will be Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 11:30 A. M. at St. James Pentecostal Holiness Church, Fieldale, Virginia, with Elder Alfred Eccles, Eulogist. Visitation will be thirty minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
