‘Sinners’ wins big on final night of NAACP Image Awards virtual show

And the award for outstanding ensemble cast in a motion picture at the NAACP Image Awards virtual show goes to Sinners. The Ryan Coogler film was announced the winner during the third and final night of the virtual event, during which it also won outstanding stunt ensemble (television or motion picture) and outstanding cinematography in a motion picture.
Quinta Brunson won outstanding character voice-over performance (motion picture) for voicing Dr. Fuzzby in Zootopia 2, while her Abbott Elementary costar Tyler James William got outstanding directing in a comedy series for his work on “The Science Fair” episode of their show.
Straw earned two awards via Teyana Taylor and Glynn Turman, who won outstanding supporting actress and actor in a television movie, limited-series or dramatic special, respectively.
The late Malcolm-Jamal Warner was posthumously awarded outstanding guest performance for his work on Murder in a Small Town.

Teyana Taylor was a nominee at the 2026 Actor Awards Sunday night, but her daughter Rue Rose Shumpert was the star of the show. Rue attended the event with Teyana and appeared to be ready for the spotlight, as she was captured fixing her mother’s dress, striking some poses and even performing a song from the movie Frozen.
She introduced herself in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, saying, “My name is Rue Rose, and my age is 5.” She asked if she could sing a song, before announcing, “I’m going to sing Frozen, but just in a different voice.”
After being met with applause from her mother, Rue asked to sing another song, and was told she and Teyana would “come back and sing.”
On Monday Teyana reflected on having Rue with her at the awards show, calling Rue “the most perfect date.”
“Rue Rose, thank you for choosing me to be your mama. You make every room brighter, every step lighter, every dream bigger. Bigger than fashion. Bigger than awards. This one felt like legacy,” she wrote on Instagram. “Sharing this night with you is a memory I’ll hold in my heart forever.”
She added that Rue “had a blastttttttt” turning the red carpet “upside down.” “I think it’s time for her sag card!!! lol,” she wrote

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is set to make her Broadway debut.
The actress will take to the stage in the first Broadway revival of the Tony Award-winning play Other Desert Cities.
Louis-Dreyfus will be joined by a cast that includes Ed Harris, Allison Janney, Lily Rabe and Stranger Things star Joe Keery, who also makes his Broadway debut in the production.
Other Desert Cities is scheduled for a 16-week limited engagement at New York’s Hudson Theatre. Performances begin on Sept. 29 with an opening night set for Oct. 18. The show will run until Jan. 17, 2027.
Tony Award winner John Benjamin Hickey is set to direct the revival of the play, which was written by Jon Robin Baitz. The show follows a family who have a huge secret.
“On Christmas Eve, the sunlit Palm Springs home of a politically connected family becomes a battleground of memory, loyalty, and legacy when a daughter returns with a memoir and the power to expose the explosive truth they’ve kept hidden. As the past comes into focus, the question isn’t just what happened, but who owns a family’s story, and what is the cost to tell it,” according to an official description.
Baitz said he had more or less “talked myself out of imagining Other Desert Cities back in New York.”
“But John Hickey is family to me, and I trust him completely. We go back longer than I ever imagined: he hears a play – its ideas, its feeling, its music – with an intelligence and knowingness that anchors a room,” Baitz said. “And with this company of actors, a playwright dreams about, I thought that if there were still something alive in it, they would find it.”
Boots Riley follows up Sorry to Bother Youwith his new film I Love Boosters, now in theaters. Like his previous film, the movie blends surrealism, comedy and a star-studded cast, including LaKeith Stanfield, Taylour Paige, Naomi Ackie and Demi Moore.
“[I Love Boosters] takes place in the world of professional shoplifters,” he tells ABC Audio. “You could roughly say it’s a heist comedy, and then you just add the fact of the cast, and you don’t have to say more. If you want to know more than that, you want to know too much.”
While Sorry to Bother Youused telemarketing to critique capitalism, this film focuses on boosters aka professional shoplifters. Boots says he had personal experience with that world during his years as a “broke rapper” trying to keep up with fashion.
He explains, “I’ve spent decades being a broke rapper … and when you have no money and you’re trying to stay fly, you better call a booster.”
The film follows a group of professional shoplifters who take aim at a cutthroat fashion maven by stealing her clothes and reselling them.
Boots says his interest in boosters comes from how often they are “villainized,” suggesting they play a role in working-class communities and communities of color.
“Boosters serve in a world in which style … is generated from communities of color and other poorer communities that can’t afford the stuff that gets generated from those inspirations,” he argues. “And so boosters actually end up … being something that holds the community together while people are trying to survive.”
The film also stars Keke Palmer, whom Boots says he wanted to challenge creatively.
“People think she’s inspiring on film, and on TV and on Instagram. She’s more so in person,” he says. “She’s such a bright, shining beacon and she is smart as hell.”
He adds that he believes the film is both of their best work.
