On November 1, 2026, select Martinsville City Administration offices will be relocated to different offices in the Martinsville Uptown area as the City continues its efforts to respond to the Circuit Court Show Cause Order.

In September 2024, the Martinsville Circuit Court entered a Show Cause Order, stating that the General District and Juvenile and Domestic District Court facilities no longer meet State law requirements. In response, plans are in place to relocate all City staff and constitutional offices to allow renovations and convert the current Municipal Building into a dedicated courthouse. This decision is estimated to save the City of Martinsville millions of dollars, as opposed to constructing a new
Courthouse.

As the first phase of relocation takes place, the Office of the City Manager, City Attorney, and Communications and Community Engagement will be located on the 5th floor of the Fidelity Bank Building located at 231 Church St E, Martinsville, VA 24112. The Community Development Office, Human Resources, and Economic Development Authority Office will be located on the 1st Floor of the One Ellsworth Building located at 1 Ellsworth Street, Martinsville, VA 24112. As a result, the Community Development Office and Human Resources will be closed on Thursday, October 30, 2026, and will reopen on Monday, November 2, 2026.

“Although the Show Cause Order has posed a challenge for our City, we have been diligent in discussing all options for relocation to ensure we are making the best fiscal and logistical decisions,” said City Manager Rob Fincher. “We are pleased to have found solutions that allow City offices and operations to remain in Uptown Martinsville while saving taxpayer dollars by avoiding new
construction.”

During the relocation, certain services may be interrupted or unavailable as staff completes the move. Plans to relocate the remaining City offices will be released once finalized.
