Former employee of W.W. Moore arrested

On February 10, 2026, staff at W.W. Moore, Jr. Juvenile Detention Home received a report of a possible inappropriate and unlawful relationship between an employee and a juvenile who had been in custody at the facility. Detention home staff immediately began an administrative investigation, and the Danville Police Department was notified and initiated a criminal investigation. Before returning to work on February 11th, the employee was placed on administrative leave.

Based on the initial results of the investigations, the employee was terminated the following day on February 12, 2026.  The investigation revealed that that between August 2022 and July 2023 employee Wendy Moyer Warren, age 42, engaged in non-forcible sexual contact with a then 15-year-old male who was in custody at the W.W. Moore, Jr. Juvenile Detention Home. Warren had been employed there as a youth care worker for 9 years.

On February 23, 2026, Wendy Moyer Warren, of Pittsylvania County, Virginia was indicted and subsequently arrested without incident on the following charges:

(2) counts of 18.2-361 / 18.2-370.1- Taking indecent liberties with child by person in custodial or supervisory relationship

(1) count of 18.2-64.1 Carnal knowledge of certain minors.

Warren is being held in the Danville City Jail under no bond.

The staff at W.W. Moore, Jr. Juvenile Detention Home began an immediate internal review to ensure the highest level of safety and security for all residents of the facility.

The incident was also reported to the Department of Juvenile Justice and Danville Social Services Child Protective Services.

As this incident involves a victim who was a juvenile at the time and is pending trial, no additional information will be released.
