(NEW YORK) — Harvey Weinstein was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years in prison for the sexual assault of Mimi Haley, a former production assistant, in 2006 in New York City.
“I am not a perfect person,” Weinstein told the judge before sentencing. “I live with many regrets, and sincerely apologize for my actions.”
Weinstein said he is “treated like an animal, or less” in custody, and said he will focus his final years on advocating for change within the prison system.
“You had it all. Your legacy could have been cemented with greatness,” Judge Curtis Farber said to the disgraced movie mogul. “But you threw it all away by assaulting Miriam Haley.”
Weinstein was convicted last year of assaulting Haley. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office asked for a 20-year sentence.
Haley told the judge Wednesday that she felt like she’s been on trial for the last seven years.
On Wednesday, DA Alvin L. Bragg, Jr. thanked Haley “and all of the survivors who came to lend their support.”
“I’m moved, as we should all be moved, by their courage and their steadfastness through what has obviously been a challenging process,” he said.

The spooky Netflix series starring Jenna Ortega announced the news on Sept. 30 – a Wednesday, of course.
Production on the new season began earlier this year near Dublin, Ireland. It was previously announced that Winona Ryder would be joining the cast, reuniting her with her frequent collaborator Tim Burton, as well as star Jenna Ortega, whom she previously acted alongside in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Also joining the cast of season 3 are Eva Green as Morticia Addams’ sister Aunt Ophelia, Chris Sarandon, Noah Taylor, Oscar Morgan, Kennedy Moyer, Lena Headey, Andrew McCarthy and James Lance.
“Our goal for Season 3 is the same as it is for every season: to make it the best season of Wednesday we possibly can,” said co-creator and showrunner Alfred Gough. “We want to continue digging deeper into our characters while expanding the world of Nevermore and Wednesday.”
Ortega stars as Wednesday Addams, alongside Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Fred Armisen and more.

Police in Santa Monica, California, say they are investigating model Presley Gerber’s death as a suspected overdose.
Gerber, the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, died Sunday at age 27, according to a report from the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office.
The Santa Monica Police Department told ABC News on Monday there were no signs of foul play.
The medical examiner’s office also released a statement on Monday saying it is in the “early stages of investigating” Presley Gerber’s death and that there is currently “limited information” available.
The statement added that a deputy medical examiner performed an examination on Monday and deferred the cause and manner of death, meaning that “additional testing and/or studies were requested in order to make a determination.”
“Due to the ongoing death investigation, the DME cannot disclose what testing and/or studies were requested,” the statement read. “Deferred cases can take a few months before a cause of death is determined.”
The statement added that Gerber’s body will be released to his family.
Sources connected to the case told ABC News on Monday that Gerber checked into a rehab center the day before he was found dead. Staff found him unresponsive on Sunday morning and the medical examiner noted in its statement that the 27-year-old was pronounced dead at 9:45 a.m.
ABC News has reached out to a representative for Crawford and Rande Gerber for comment.
Presley Gerber, whose sister is model and actress Kaia Gerber, was signed by IMG Models at 15.
He walked Fashion Week runways for Moschino and Dolce & Gabbana and had campaigns with Calvin Klein, Celine and more.
Leading up to his death, Gerber had been open about his struggles with mental health and substance abuse, speaking candidly about treatment after being charged with a DUI in 2019. He also had a video series called “Mental Health Mondays” in 2024.
A spokesperson for Crawford told ABC News in a statement Sunday, “The family is asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”

A stage adaptation of Prince’s Purple Rain is coming to Broadway next spring.
Producer Orin Wolf has announced that the musical, which was first announced back in January 2024, will begin previews at New York’s Majestic Theatre on March 12, 2027, with an official opening date of April 12, 2027.
The production will feature over 20 Prince hits, including such songs as “When Doves Cry,” “I Would Die 4 U,” “Take Me with You” and “The Beautiful Ones.”
The musical will be set in Minneapolis in 1984, and like the original film, it centers around a magnetic performer known as The Kid. According to the description, he “seems like the perfect frontman to lead his bandmates to stardom. But when his past threatens everything he’s built, he’ll have to sing his way out of the darkness and into the spotlight where he belongs.”
The musical will be directed by Saheem Ali, Tony-nominated for Buena Vista Social Club, with a book by Peter Duchan, music by MJ The Musical Tony winner Jason Michael Webb and choreography by Ebony Williams.
So far no cast for the Broadway production has been announced. Tickets will go on sale in September.
Released in July 1984, Purple Rain grossed close to $70 million in the United States. The soundtrack was Prince’s first #1 and spent 24 weeks on the top of the chart.
