Mayor suspended

Martinsville Mayor LC Jones has been suspended from the City Council as he awaits a show-cause hearing on Thursday next week before Judge Carter Greer, who’s retiring the following day.

Greer wasted no time, issuing his directive less than 24 hours after Commonwealth’s Attorney Patrick Flinn filed notice that he had found valid grounds for a petition calling for the removal of Jones to proceed.

Greer summoned Jones to court to show why he should not be removed from office on four grounds: That he accepted a bribe, that he failed to disqualify himself from participating in a transaction in which he had a personal interest, that he failed to disclose the existence of the personal interest in a required disclosure statement, and that he demonstrated neglect, misuse, and incompetence while in office.
