Meg Stalter to make Broadway debut starring in ‘Oh, Mary!’

Oh, Mary? More like Oh, Meg!
Meg Stalter will make her Broadway debut by taking on the starring role of Mary Todd Lincoln in the Tony Award-winning play Oh, Mary!
Stalter’s run in the production will be a 10-week limited engagement starting on July 6 and ending on Sept. 12.
Oh, Mary!‘s official Instagram shared a poster with Stalter adorned in Mary’s signature bratty curls. The account also posted a video of Stalter getting in costume as Mary before looking straight to the camera and saying, “Sensational.”
Cole Escola created, wrote and won a Tony for starring in Oh, Mary! The show is a one-act comedy play centered on Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to her husband Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.
Maya Rudolph is currently starring as Mary Todd Lincoln in the production. She made her Broadway debut through this limited run, which was recently extended for two additional weeks. Her final performance in the role will be July 5.
The official trailer is out for Remarkably Bright Creatures, a new Netflix film based on the 2022 bestselling novel by Shelby Van Pelt. Sally Field plays Tova, a widow working at an aquarium who befriends an octopus named Marcellus. “Unbeknownst to Tova, Marcellus is on a mission to solve a mystery that will heal the widow’s heart and lead her to a life-changing discovery,” the movie’s description says. The official trailer for the upcoming Sense and Sensibility film has arrived.
Daisy Edgar-Jones will star as Elinor in the adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel, which arrives to theaters on Oct. 16.
Also starring are Esmé Creed-Miles as Marianne Dashwood, Caitríona Balfe as Mrs. Dashwood, Frank Dillane as John Willoughby, George MacKay as Edward Ferrars, Herbert Nordrum as Colonel Brandon, Bodhi Rae Breathnach as Margaret Dashwood and Fiona Shaw as Mrs. Jennings.
Georgia Oakley directs the movie for Focus Features and Working Title. Bestselling author Diana Reid adapted Austen’s book for the film’s screenplay. This adaptation is “an irresistible new take on Jane Austen’s iconic Sense and Sensibility: a charming, witty, and deeply relatable story of love and sisterhood,” according to an official description.
Sense and Sensibility, of course, follows sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. It shows the journey of their love lives, losses and financial uncertainty, all of which they navigate as complete opposites in emotional approach.
The new trailer shows off this take on the classic story, with sisters Elinor and Marianne navigating their lives and considering the possibility of romantic love.
“The man who loves me must burn with it, with all his passions, without the lightest restraint or hesitation,” Creed-Miles’ Marianne says in the trailer.
The trailer ends with Marianne saying, “I think a man ought to be at least artificially passionate or he’d be sincerely dull,” before admitting to her sister, “I require so much.”
The film marks the third Austen adaptation for Focus Features and Working Title after the 2005 Pride & Prejudice film and 2020’s Emma. Sense and Sensibility was previously brought to the screen by Ang Lee in his 1995 film starring Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant.
It seems folks were clamoring for the return of Scary Movie.
The sixth installment in the horror movie parody franchise, and the first since 2013’s Scary Movie 5, earned $55 million at the box office this weekend to debut at #1, according to Box Office Mojo.
Variety reports that Scary Movie’s haul was actually a record opening for the franchise, surpassing 2006’s Scary Movie 4, which brought in $49.7 million in its debut weekend.
Another new film, Masters of the Universe, debuted at #2, bringing in $29.3 million, while last week’s #1, Backrooms, dropped to #3 with $25.9 million.
Rounding out the top five were Obsession, with $25.6 million, and another new film, The Amazing Digital Circus: The Last Act, with $11.6 million.
