Obituary For Charles Lee Swinney
Charles Lee Swinney, 83, entered his eternal rest Tuesday, June 3, 2025, in Axton, Virginia. He was born August 13, 1941, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Robert Jasper Swinney and Carrie Payne Swinney.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Wade Swinney; sisters, Bonnie Sawyer and Helen Akers; brothers, James Swinney, Glen Swinney, and Noah Swinney.
Charles was of the Christian faith and a godly man. His love for family was unparalleled and to his children, he was the “best dad ever.” He faithfully worked for Barrow Fencing and enjoyed electrical work, plumbing, and carpentry. Charles was truly a “jack of all trades” who found satisfaction in painting, working on cars, as well as tending to flower and vegetable gardens. He loved chickens and his sense of humor was contagious. All who knew him were recipients of the wonderful legacy he left behind.
He leaves a host of family and friends to cherish and honor his memory including his loving wife, Mildred Ethelyne Akers Swinney; daughter, Carolyn Carter (Mark); sons, Robert Lee Swinney (April), Timothy Douglas Swinney (Debra), Anthony Ray Swinney (April); sister, Maxine Mays (Steve); brothers, Marshall Swinney (Wanda), Samuel “Sam” Swinney (Karen); and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Friday, June 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Robby Benfield officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
