Obituaries

Edward David Gravely, Jr., 82, transitioned from this earthly life Monday, June 2, 2025, in Roanoke, Virginia. He was born November 7, 1942, to the late Edward David Gravely, Sr., and Mary Josephine Ingram Gravely in West Virginia.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his only daughter, Dhannyn Gravely; and sisters, Edna Lorraine Gravely and Roberta Gaye Gravely.

After graduating from Kimball High School in West Virginia, Edward proudly served his country for 34 years in the United States Army, working 20 of those years as a teacher for the Department of Defense. He was a man of diverse appreciations who loved to fish and ride his motorcycle but could also be found watching westerns, building computers, or spending quality time with his great-granddaughter.

He is survived by a host of friends and family who will truly miss his presence. Left to cherish and honor his memory are his loving wife of 61 years, Delcena McNeal Gravely; son, David M. Gravely; sister, Effie “Tiny” Gravely; brother, James “Toby” Gravely; grandchildren, Diamond M. Gravely, Delquan M. Gravely, Ronnell L. Gravely-McTootle, Cherron M. Gravely-McTootle, Rashawn L. Gravely-McTootle; and one great-granddaughter, Dynver P. Gravely.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Carver Memorial Garden at 11:00 AM. A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 10, 2025, from 2:00-5:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
