Obituary For Gloria Jean Roberts

Gloria Jean Roberts, 53, of Ridgeway, VA went to her heavenly home on Sunday, December 1st, 2024, surrounded by her family in her home. Gloria was born in Martinsville, VA, to Karen Cannaday and the late, Paul Cassell. She grew up in Martinsville, VA but, would spend most of her summers as a young girl alongside her sisters in Dover, Pennsylvania with her grandma and grandpa helping at their family store and family farm. Gloria was a Martinsville High School Graduate.

Gloria was a jack of all trades; she worked at Southern Area Agency on Aging as a care coordinator during the week and Fisherman’s Galley as a waitress during the weekend where she had many loyal customers, until she was no longer able to work. Gloria was a tried-and-true bargain seeker. She loved going to yard sales, Goodwill and the flea market – She loved it so much that she found the love of her life there. Finding all the treasures and never paying full price for anything was her niche and she was good at it. When she wasn’t bargaining hunting, she enjoyed watching all her favorite reality TV shows and her favorite cooking shows. But, most of all, her favorite pass time was spending time with her family, especially her grandson. Her favorite title of them all was Gigi, she took pride in it and was the best one there ever was.

Gloria was a beautiful soul with an even more beautiful smile. She was an open book and honest, she never hesitated to tell it like it was. She had a heart of gold and would do anything for anyone even if that meant she went without. She was a loving woman, a caring woman, a feisty woman; she was everything to everyone around her.

Gloria is survived by her fiancé of ten years, David Deskins; her mother, Karen Cannaday; her three daughters, Kasey Harris (Von), Tiffany Roberts and Ivory Deskins (Daniel); her two sisters, Wendy Hoff and Stacey Handy Young (Gary); her two brothers, Tony Helms (Lisa) and John Cassell (Kim); and her one and only grandson, her pride and joy, William McDuffie, Jr. Along with many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was predeceased by her father, Frank Murphy; her nephew, Tyler Cassell; her grandmother and grandfather, Alverta Mummert Stough and Jack Mummert; and her father-in-law, Earl Deskins.

There will never be another Glo, she was a once in a lifetime kind of woman. She will be eternally missed and never forgotten for who she was as a beloved companion, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend and Gigi.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Norris Funeral Services.
