Obituary For Gracie T. Cobbler
Gracie T. Cobbler, 91, of Stuart, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection. Gracie was born on August 23, 1933, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late George L. Thacker and Ruth Compton Thacker. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert "Dewey" Turner; her daughter, Patricia T. Shelton; and her grandchildren, John Robert and Kristen Shelton.
She was one of 14 siblings, with the following brothers and sisters preceding her in death: Posey Thacker, Dewey Thacker, Everette Thacker, Otis Thacker, Marshall Thacker, Howard Thacker, Myrtle Martin, Eva Houck, June Hopkins, and Mary Frances Hammock.
Gracie spent her life dedicated to hard work and service. She labored alongside her family on their farm before beginning a career in the textile industry. After retirement, she devoted her time to caring for her grandchildren and serving as a loving babysitter for many children in her church community.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. A woman of God, Gracie taught Sunday school and led children's church on Sunday mornings and Wednesday nights at her church until she was no longer physically able to do so. Her unwavering faith and selfless service touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
A three-time cancer survivor, Gracie was a true testament to strength, perseverance, and faith. She was deeply loved by her family, church, and community, and she will be profoundly missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
Gracie’s legacy lives on through her son, Roger Turner; her granddaughters, Alicia Wagner (David) and Tammie Isley (Kevin); her six great-grandchildren: Hailey, Brooklyn, Paisley, Brilyn, Daniel, and Knox; her two brothers, Billy Thacker and Walter Thacker; and one sister, Ann Phillips. She was joyfully anticipating the arrival of her seventh great-grandchild, Tripp, due in April. Gracie also leaves behind a host of cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 3:00pm at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Bishop Kenneth Daniels, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A burial will follow at Mt. View Cemetery.
