Jerry Wayne Whitlock, 78, passed away peacefully in Roanoke, VA on November 30, 2025.

He was born on September 17, 1947, in Bassett, Virginia, to the late Esley F. Whitlock and Lessie Witt Whitlock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Whitlock; his sister, Evelyn Daniels; and three brothers, Roy Whitlock, Carl Leonard Whitlock, and John “Buck” Whitlock.

Jerry was a quiet man with a strong sense of family and loyalty. His life centered around his family. Jerry joined the United States Navy after high school and served as an Operations Specialist (OS) / Radarman (RD) from 1969-1973. After he left the Navy, he worked alongside his brother Billy at Lowe and Nelson in Roanoke and then dedicated 40 years to Whitlock Plumbing and Heating. He was always loyal and ready to do whatever job he was asked to do.

When he wasn’t working, he was always with his family. His life revolved around his children and later his grandchildren. There wasn’t a sport he didn’t coach with his sons, a Scout jamboree he missed, a weekend in the woods teaching them how to hunt and fish, and even learned to scuba dive for his boys. Once his grandkids came along, that changed to dance recitals, tennis meets, choir shows, horse shows, track meets, and being the general chauffeur.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Benjamin Whitlock (Tiffany) and Jerry Whitlock (Charlotte); his daughter, Tammy Younger. He was known as Papa to five grandchildren, Oneal Holland, Courtney Younger, Cheyenne Whitlock, Jake Whitlock, and Zachary Whitlock; and one great-grandson, Coen Holland. He also leaves behind his fur buddy, Zeus.

He is survived by his brother Billy G. Whitlock, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.

The family would like to give special thanks to Page Rodgers and Gail Combs for their care and friendship to Papa over the last few weeks.
