Obituaries

Mary Philpott Barksdale, 98, of Martinsville, passed away Saturday, August 6, 2022, at her residence. She was born November 22, 1923, in Martinsville, Virginia to the late John Philpott and Millie Stockton Philpott.

Mary was a member of Galilean House of Worship in Martinsville. She was a dedicated employee of and retired from Jobbers, where she held a position of Seamstress for thirty years. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, sewing, and singing. She loved reading her bible, attending church, and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Barksdale, Sr.; sisters, Lillie Bell Staples, Ora Dalton, Rubena Rumley, and Ivy Jean Philpott; and brothers, James Philpott and Earnest Philpott.

She is survived by her sons, William Barksdale, Jr. and Raymond Barksdale; sister, Rosetta Nibelett; grandchildren, Troy Barksdale, Andre Jennings, Tracie Barksdale Hampton (Louis), and Jason Barksdale; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Sunday, August 14, 2022, at 3:30 pm, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Bishop Michael Penn officiating. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service. A floating visitation will be Saturday, August 13, 2022, from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Wright Funeral Service Chapel
