Obituaries

Nannie “Sue” Gammons Bowman, 90, of Martinsville, passed away Friday, December 27, 2024, at her home. She was born August 1, 1934, in Patrick County, Virginia to the late Zachariah Gammons, and the late Gatha Bowman Gammons.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William James Bowman; sisters, Ida White, Vergie Crowe, Lois Kendrick, Clara Hanks, and Nancy Craig; and her brothers Junior Gammons, Foster Gammons, and Glen Gammons.

Sue was of the Christian faith, a member of Horsepasture Christian Church and over the last few years attended Mercy Crossing with family. She was a graduate of Spencer Penn School. She and her husband owned and operated a farm supply store together for nearly twenty-five years. Her passion was for dancing; especially flat footing and even taught her grandchildren. Her family enjoyed her cooking and indulged in her deviled eggs, coconut cream pies, and German chocolate cake. Sue was known for the larger-than-life personality and huge heart she carried; kidding, always joking and loved when you’d play too. The treasure that she held near and dear to her heart was the time spent with her family. Sue was loved dearly and will be greatly missed.

Nannie is survived by her daughter, Teresa Hodge( Dennis); sons, Brian Bowman (Bonnie), and Bradley Bowman (Kastina); sister, Shirley Underwood (Lester); grandchildren, James Holt, III (Amy), Elodia Sinclair, Tara Gockley (Mike), Dustin Bowman (Kayla), Alyssa Bowman, and Shaun Bowman; and fourteen great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be at Wright Funeral Service at 2:00 P.M., on Thursday, January 2, 2025. The visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
