Obituaries

Phyllis Albert Duncan, 88, of Bassett, died on November 7, 2022 at Sovah Health- Martinsville.

Born December 16, 1933, in McCoy, Va., she was the daughter of the late Emmett and Chloe Shepherd Albert. In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, William Ford Duncan; three brothers: E.D. Albert, Clint Albert, and Ted Albert; sister, Patty Albert; and grandson, Tommy Boothe.

Phyllis is survived by four daughters: Debra K. Duncan, Patricia D. Graham (George), Donna D. Boothe (Richard), and Janice L. English; six grandchildren: Tim Duncan, Shannon Simmons, Tonia Gilley, Clay Boothe, Joshua (“Josh”) Duncan, and Melissa English; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Mescal Smith; four sisters-in-law; and her special niece, Jackie Dove.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Ben Lewis, as well as the rest of the staff at Sovah Emergency Department for their dedicated care of Phyllis.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 12, 2022, from 1:00pm to 2:00 pm in the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel where a funeral service will start at 2:00pm with Dr. David Towler presiding. Burial will follow in Mt. Hermon Church of the Brethren Cemetery in Bassett, Va.
