Robert William Hairston, Sr., 93, of Bassett, died Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Sovah Health-Martinsville.

He was born on October 24, 1928, to the late Booker T. Washington Hairston, Sr. and the late Mattie Mitchell Hairston. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Lillie Mae Hairston of 69 years, Robert Hairston, Sr.; daughters, Conchita Hairston, Lillie Madrew Hicks and Virginia Ann Hairston; sisters, Elsie Reid, Lois and Joyce; brothers, Hurbert Hairston, Booker Hairston, Jr., Waverly Hairston and Curtis Hairston.

He leaves to cherish her memories a sons, James (Peggy) Baker of Greensboro, NC, Cephis (Erika) Hairston of Roanoke, VA, Robert Hairston, Jr. of Bassett, VA and Rodney (Sarah) Hairston of Radford, VA; daughters, Odean (Ben) Shelton of Cascade, VA, Georgia (Lee) Smith of Roanoke, VA, Vivian Hairston, Diane Hairston both of Bassett, VA and Mattie Hairston of Fieldale, VA; brother, Vance Joseph Hairston, Sr. of Martinsville; sister, Inez Woods of Bassett; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Monday from 12-12:30 p.m. at Bassett Funeral Service followed by the funeral at 12:30 p.m. The burial will be Monday at the Hairston Family Cemetery.
