Brian Tyree Henry to star in upcoming Apple film ‘Running’

Brian Tyree Henry has another Apple gig in the works. He’s set to star in the upcoming movie Running opposite Spike Fearn, according to Deadline. Details about his character have not been disclosed.
Running is based on an original story by director Gavin O’ Connor. It tells the story of a “homeless high school running prodigy on the hunt for greatness as he uses his gifts to outrun his past and find a family,” Deadline reports.
“I started thinking about building a story around a homeless kid who doesn’t have a place in the world. No love. No friends. No family. The only home he knows is the streets,” O’Connor said, as per Deadline. “It felt like a great place to begin a character’s journey and tell an underdog story about the human spirit.”
Bill Dubuque wrote the script, with production from Makeready and Nike.
Running marks Henry’s latest Apple project. He previously starred in and executive produced the Emmy- and Critics Choice-nominated series Dope Thief, as well as Causeway, which received an Academy Award nomination.
Rose Byrne stars in ‘If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.’ (Logan White/A24)
The 98th annual Oscars are less than a week away. Rose Byrne received her first-ever Oscar nomination for her performance in the film If I Had Legs I’d Kick You. She’s up for best actress at the ceremony, and Byrne’s nomination is the only recognition the film received this year.
Byrne spoke to ABC Audio about what it means to represent director Mary Bronstein’s film at this year’s ceremony.
“We premiered [If I Had] Legs [I’d Kick You] a year ago at Sundance. So, it’s been a year of shepherding this film. And it’s an indie film,” Byrne said, adding, “So it was a smaller budget for advertising stuff.”
Despite all of that, Byrne said the film has connected and made an impact.
“It’s been truly an extraordinary experience,” Byrne said. “I just couldn’t anticipate how people have received it. It’s been really varied. What people’s takeaway from the film is [that] it’s very interpretive and it is a real expression of feeling. And I think that’s just been a highlight to be part of something that’s very compelling, and polarizing and moving.”
All of that has been “really, really cool,” she said, but even better is that she gets to represent the film as its only nomination.
“To have this recognition, it’s really recognition for the film, because the character is the film and the film is the character,” Byrne said, before speaking on what she’s enjoyed most about this awards season.
“It’s been fun to meet people I love, meet people I admire,” Byrne said. “It’s incredible, obviously, I’m the fan.”
The Oscars will take place Sunday at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. The show will air live on ABC and will also stream live on Hulu.

Euphoria creator Sam Levinson is dedicating the new season of his hit show to Eric Dane, Angus Cloud and producer Kevin Turen.
At the season 3 premiere of Euphoria in Los Angeles on Tuesday night, Levinson addressed the audience ahead of the screening and paid tribute to the late actors and producer, who died in the years after season 2 aired on HBO.
“Some people ask why it took so long between seasons 2 and 3,” Levinson said, addressing the four-year gap. “There were obvious factors — the [writers and actors] strikes, how to make a schedule work with our very in-demand cast. But the real time was trying to figure out how to find a way to pay respect to those who we lost.”
Cloud, who starred as Fezco in Euphoria seasons 1 and 2, died in July 2023 from an accidental drug overdose. He was 25.
“When Angus died, it was tough. I loved him deeply. And I fought hard to keep him clean,” Levinson said at the premiere.
He also pointed to the opioid epidemic and discussed how it has affected many people across the U.S.
In 2023, approximately 105,000 people died from drug overdose, with 76% involving either an illegal or prescription opioid and 69% involving synthetic opioids other than methadone, “primarily illegally made fentanyl and fentanyl analogs,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Approximately 73,000 people died from fentanyl overdoses in 2023, according to the CDC, representing “nearly 92% of opioid overdose deaths.”
“I learned a whole lot that year, but what I realized more than anything is that death is what gives life meaning,” Levinson said at Tuesday’s premiere, referring to Cloud’s death. “You can’t be arrogant about existence. You’re forced to reckon with the fact that life itself is a wonder, a gift, a profound blessing.”
Four months after Cloud’s death, Turen died from multiple heart issues, according to a medical examiner’s report.
Dane, who starred as Cal Jacobs in Euphoria, died in February this year, following a battle with ALS.
Prior to Dane’s death, he returned to his role for the show’s third season. Fans got a preview of his final performance in the season 3 trailer, which was released March 30.
“I’d like to dedicate this season to those who we lost: Angus, Kevin and Eric,” he said. “The Rebbe says, ‘The only way to see great light is to pass through great darkness.’ Well, it feels good to be on the other side.”
Euphoria season 3, starring Zendaya, Jacob Elordi and Sydney Sweeney, will debut on HBO and stream on HBO Max on Sunday.
