City police to reduce number of Flock cameras

Martinsville Police Chief Chad Rhoads said Wednesday the department will reduce its Flock license plate reader network from 80 cameras to nine because state grant funding has expired and the city faces budget pressures.

Police officials said the cameras have helped solve homicides, locate missing people, and track suspects.

Rhoads also said Martinsville police will not participate in the TV show “On Patrol: Live,” citing privacy concerns. Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis defended his department’s participation in the program’s trial.
