A Franklin County sheriff’s deputy has been charged in connection with a 2025 crash that later killed 55-year-old Joey Callaway of Rocky Mount. Court records show Deputy Zion Wade is charged with involuntary manslaughter and improper brakes. State Police said Wade was driving a patrol vehicle on Grassy Hill Road when he crossed the center line and struck Callaway’s pickup. Investigators said Wade may have fallen asleep. He is on administrative leave.
