Obituary For Barbara Jo Soderquist Morgan

Barbara Jo (Soderquist) Morgan born May 9th, 1942 in Bay City Michigan.

She married John Michael Morgan Dec 31st, 1961 while both were attending Michigan Tech University in Houghton, Michigan.

Daughter Leslie was born in Hancock, Michigan January, 1963, and upon graduation from Michigan Tech in June that year the family began what would begin Barbara’s role as an Army Wife and mother.

She raised a second daughter Amy (Morgan) Baker born April, 1965 at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. She had six grandchildren.

While her husband was twice, year-long combat deployed to South Vietnam, she admirably managed all family matters and developed financial plans for their future, While doing this for 28 years as an Army Wife, she also worked as an Administrative Assistant for senior Amy officers in (then) West Germany and Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Upon their retirement from active duty in 1992 at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri she moved with her husband to Stafford, Virginia where she worked professionally for HR Block as a tax preparer.

In 1997 they moved to Holden Beach, North Carolina where she applied community support skills she learned as an Army Wife during the time her husband served as Town Manager.

They decided to move to Ridgeway, Virginia in 2002 so as to be close to daughter Leslie and her family.

She was an extremely skilled “quilter” and enjoyed working with others equally talented in the Virginia Foothills Quilt Guild. Unfortunately, physical limitations and dementia made the later years of her life very challenging and she spent the final year of her life in Martinsville Health and Rehab skilled nursing facility and Mountain Valley Hospice in Martinsville, Virginia.

She passed away on November 12, 2024 and is buried at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway, Virginia.

Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home is in charge.
