Obituary For Betty Murphy Stanley
Betty Murphy Stanley, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away Saturday, March 29, 2025. She was born July 12, 1947, in Eden, North Carolina, to the late Moir Tuttle Murphy and Annie Caudle Murphy.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Gene Stanley.
Betty dedicated forty years of her life to shaping young minds as an elementary music school teacher in Eden City Schools, leaving a lasting impact on generations of students. A proud graduate of the Morehead High School, Class of 1965, she carried her love for learning and teaching throughout her life. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Music from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1969, further deepening her passion for music education. Betty was a devoted member of First Presbyterian Church in Martinsville, Virginia, where she found joy in serving her Lord through music. She was a faithful member of the choir, a soloist, and even served as an interim choir director. In addition to her church involvement, she also enjoyed singing with the Smith River Singers, using her voice to uplift and inspire others.
In addition to her love for music, Betty had a deep appreciation for nature, especially flowers, which brought her peace and happiness. She found joy in gardening and admiring the beauty of the world around her. Above all, Betty cherished her family, filling their lives with love, warmth, and kindness. She will be remembered not only for her incredible talent and dedication but also the way she touched the hearts of so many with her generosity, compassion, and unwavering love.
She is survived by her daughter, Beth Lawson (Darren Lockridge); grandchildren, Reid Lawson, Gage Lawson, Alex Lawson, along with their father, Randy Lawson; as well as Caleb Martin and Damion Cobbs.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 2:00 PM, at First Presbyterian Church in Martinsville. A visitation will be held Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, also at First Presbyterian Church in Martinsville, Virginia.
