Obituaries

Carolyn Patricia Finney, 79, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023 at SOVAH Health of Martinsville. She was born July 4, 1944 in Bluefield, West Virgina, to the late Ellis Freeman Harrison and Stella Virginia Johns Harrison. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Brenda Ray Johns and brother, Curtis LeRue Harrison.

She was a graduate of Albert Harris High School, and had been employed in housekeeping at Best Western Hotels for 20 years. She was a member of Divine Faith Holiness Church, where she served on the Mother’s Board. She enjoyed attending church and listening to gospel music. She liked watching cooking shows and westerns on television.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Brenda Lee Finney; sons, John Freeman Finney, Christopher Jerome Finney and Michael O’Neal Finney; brothers, Ellis Freeman Harrison (Diane), Chester Harrison (Tonya), and Timothy Leon Harrison (Wanda); 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday, October 28, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Refuge Temple Ministries, 205 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, with visitation 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Finney Family Cemetery on Way Cross Drive in Fieldale, Virginia. A Floating Visitation will be Friday, October 27, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.

Visitation will also be at the home of Rebecca (Peaches) Johns, 1107 Roundabout Road, Martinsville.
