Obituaries

Claude Edward Cassell, 88, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Sovah Health – Danville. He was born on August 23, 1936, in Patrick County, Virginia, to the late Claude Otis Cassell and Geneva Craig Cassell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Douglas Cassell, Coy Cassell, and Mike Cassell; two sisters, Shirlene McCallister and Frances Chaney; a stepdaughter, Sharon Wright; and a grandson, Jeremy Adams.

Claude proudly served in the United States Army, spending his service in Germany during peacetime. Following his military career, he retired as a supervisor from Stanley Furniture. A devoted member of Day Star Ministries, he was a man of unwavering faith and prayer.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 41 years, Peggy “Christine” Cassell; three daughters, Janice Moore (Greg), Lisa Hall (Gary), and Teresa Stegall (Billy); one stepdaughter, Cathy Adams Gardner; one stepson, Rick Wright; five grandchildren, Ashley Hughes, Camber Horton (Orbra), Kimberly Stegall (Chris), Pamela Stegall, and Phillip Stegall; four step-grandchildren, Cameron Reed (Amy), Brandon Reed, Courtney Puckett, and Chad Adams (Carmela); 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Jimmy Cassell, David Cassell, and Donnie Cassell; two sisters, Virginia Dale Snow and Patricia Sowers; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. A private graveside service will follow. The family will receive friends at other times at the home.
