Obituaries

Deborah Scales Montgomery, 72, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away Sunday April 20, 2025. She was born June 14, 1952, in Martinsville, Virginia to the late Major Henry Scales Sr. and Mildred Cahill Scales.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Frank Montgomery.

Deborah showed much dedication throughout her fifty-year career, working both with Tultex and Biscuitville in Martinsville, Virginia. She was proud to be part of the first graduating class of Martinsville High School, having previously attended Albert Harris. Deborah found joy in the simple pleasures, watching her favorite shows like soap operas, Family Feud, The Big Bang Theory, and Hell’s Kitchen. Most of all, she cherished the time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, who brough her greatest joy. She was a deeply giving person, always willing to help others, even if it meant giving her very last dime.

She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Scales; son, Samuel Montgomery; sisters, Rogernette Scales and Margaret Scales; brothers, Major Scales, Jr. and Roger Scales (Toy); six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 3:00 PM, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will be private. A visitation will be one half hour prior to the service.

The family will receive friends and extended family at 87 Poplar Street, Ridgeway, Virginia.
