Obituaries

Donald Roger Wood, 79, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away March 12, 2025. He was born October 13, 1945, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Donald Roger Wood and Nannie Spencer Wood.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Bobby Wood and Randy Wood; and a grandchild, Amanda Wood.

Donald dedicated over thirty years of his career as a technician at DuPont before retiring. He was a devoted member of Rich Acres Baptist Church and Temple Baptist Church, he actively participated in church life, teaching Sunday School and engaging in various activities. His passion for cars, especially Rat Rods, was evident, and he was a true enthusiast who enjoyed restoring antiques and bringing old things back to life. Donald also found joy in speaking at nursing homes, sharing his faith and wisdom with others. Above all, he cherished time with his family, creating lasting memories with his grandchildren. His warmth and love for visitors made him a beloved presence in the lives of those around him.

He is survived by his loving wife of thirty-four years, Bobbie Jean Martin Wood; daughter, Susan Southern; sons, Robert D. Wood, Ricky D. Martin (Janet), and Steven D. Martin; sisters, Kay Wood and Karen Wood; brother, Jerry Wood; grandchildren, Wynn Martin, Nora Grace Martin, Jessica Hicks, Sydney Morgan, Tanner Martin, Elizabeth Meade, Hannah Carmichael, Christian Robertson, and Devin Wood; ten great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Don Reynolds officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
