Dorothy Geneva Shelton, 84, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Beacon Place in Greensboro, North Carolina. She was born April 20, 1941, to the late Huey Denton Boardwine and Thelma Guinn Boardwine in Russell County, Virginia.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband James Walter Shelton; daughter, Tanna Fitzgerald; and brother, Mackie Boardwine.

Dorothy was of the Christian faith and attended Mayo Christian Church. Her work ethic made her a well-respected employee at Fieldcrest Mills where she worked in quality control. Known as a very strong woman, she was a fighter and could be outspoken at times. Those personality traits made her fiercely protective and loyal to her family. Her children, grandchildren, and even friends never had to question her love for them, as she was always there to help anyone. Dorothy enjoyed travelling to add things to her collections, whether it be dishes or baby dolls. Her life made an impact on those who knew and loved her and her presence on this earth will be deeply missed.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Cindy Morris; son, Freddie Shelton (Tina); sisters, Peggy Fulcher, Darleen Willard (Ernest), Susie Hopkins; brothers, Denton Boardwine, Danny Boardwine (Jay); grandchildren, Jerry Wayne Hall, Christopher Lee Hall (Christy), Jonathan P. Shelton (Anna), Amanda Dawn Lineberry (Chris), Terah Cloud, Jamie Brooke Fitzgerald; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Although services will be private, the family is grateful for the displays of love and kindness that have been shown.
