Obituary For Edward Clay Williams

Mr. Edward Clay Williams, age 86 of Fieldale, VA passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at his residence.

Mr. Williams was born on March 5, 1939 in Henry County, VA to Roy E. Williams and Lois H. Williams. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his youngest son, Mark T. Williams, brother, Tommy David Williams and his adoptive father, George F. “Toby” Williams.

Ed graduated from Bassett High School, served in the US Navy as Submariner and retired from Dupont. Renowned for his kind nature, love of gardening and commitment to his family, he and Betty also relished traveling to car shows in Pennsylvania and North Carolina. A devoted spouse, loving parent and cherished friend, Ed had a passion for custom cars.

He found immense joy and great happiness while constructing custom cars often starting with the chassis. For instance, he would attach a 1940’s Mercury body to a 1970 Cadillac chassis and alter the roof, along with many other enhancements. He combined engineering, skill creativity and passion into what many consider an art form.

Ed is survived by his adoring wife of 66 years, Betty C. Williams; son, Edward C. Williams, Jr.; daughter, Pamela W. Speakman; granddaughter, Brittany M. Speakman; friends, Charles Hylton and Shelly Laramore; along with the numerous car enthusiasts he and Betty encountered throughout the years; good neighbors; as well as friends and family.
