Frances “Mama Jean” Roop Ramey, 78, of Patrick Springs, Virginia passed away Sunday, April 20, 2025. She was born November 17, 1946, in Patrick County, Virginia to the late Marshall Edwin Roop and Georgia Hazel Gilley Roop.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn R. Bowles; brothers, Harvey Harold Roop, Marshall Stanley Roop and David Bryant Roop; and granddaughter, Amber Marie Branch.

Jean was a devoted member of Faith Fellowship of Bassett, Virginia, where she was a faithful attendee and a shining example of unwavering faith. Each morning, she began her day with Bible reading, quiet devotion, prayer time with the Lord, and a comforting cup of coffee. Her love for her church family was matched only by the deep love she had for her own family. Jean was married to David for fifty-nine years, a beautiful testament to lifelong devotion. She was affectionately known as “Mama” to those closest to her, and they meant the world to her. Jean was a loving, caring, and giving woman, a cherished prayer partner, and a true servant at heart. In her free time, she enjoyed reading and was a stellar cook; no one ever left her home hungry, especially if she had cornbread on the table. She worked in the furniture industry for many years and was a proud graduate of Hardin Reynolds Memorial School, class of 1965. Above all, Jean loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She longed for the day she would see him face to face, and on Resurrection Sunday, her greatest desire was fulfilled.

She is survived by her loving husband of fifty-nine years, John David Ramey; daughter, Angela Ramey Smith (Randy); son, Jeffery David Ramey; grandson, Jonathan “Jon” Darrell Branch; great grandson, Alton Branch; brother-in-law, Michael Ramey; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

The funeral will be held Wednesday April 23, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Freddie Bonds officiating. Interment will follow at the Ferris-Roop Family Cemetery, South County Line Road, Patrick Springs, Virginia 24133. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
