Obituaries

On Friday, October 13, 2023, Gloria Jean Redd Hairston 65, of Stella Loop, Spencer, VA transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life at Lifebrite Community Hospital, Danbury, NC. She was born in Spencer, VA on May 11, 1958, the daughter of Jimmie Lester Redd, Sr., and the late Barbara Jean Martin Redd.

Gloria was a faithful member of Ridgeway Primitive Baptist Church. She worked for West Window where she was lovingly known as “Lucy”. After leaving West Window, Gloria went to work for Ridgeway Clock where she was a supervisor for several years. Over the years, Gloria was a dedicated caregiver for multiple clients, and she was a graduate of Patrick County High School class of 1978.

Those left to cherish her memory include her father, Jimmie L. Redd, Sr. of Spencer, VA; one son, Jonathan Hairston (Quaneisha) of Greensboro, NC; one daughter, Vanessa Hairston of Greensboro, NC; her siblings, Jimmy Redd, Jr. of Roanoke, VA, Della Seay of Salisbury, NC, Timothy Redd of Stuart, VA, Dawn Keen “Snugg” of Ridgeway, VA, Sharon Hairston of Bassett, VA, and Diane Penn of Richmond, VA; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A visitation service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at Tatum Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church, 2070 Mountain View Loop, Stuart, VA with Elder Manuel Jessup, Eulogist. The burial will follow at the Red Hollow Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 30568 Jeb Stuart Hwy., Spencer, VA. A public viewing will be held on Friday, October 20, 2023, at Hairston Funeral Home, 301 Fayette St., Martinsville, VA, between the hours of 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. Other times, the family will be receiving friends at residence, 750 Stella Loop, Spencer, VA.
