Obituary For Henry Willis Cox Sr.

Henry Willis Cox, Sr., 75, of Ridgeway, Virginia, met his Savior face to face Wednesday, October 29, 2025. He was born on June 17, 1950, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Frank Cox and Lula Clifton Cox.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sue Watkins Cox; daughter, Amelia Cox; sisters, Lurenda Mitchell, Mary “Mae” Griffith; brothers, Lonnie Cox, Connis Cox, and James “Chubby” Cox.

Henry was a Christian man who had a tremendous faith in God and made it a priority to love God and to help others as often as he could. He pastored God’s Mission Church in Ridgeway, Virginia for many years. He was a graduate of Drewry Mason High School and attended Averett College in Danville, Virginia. Henry was employed by Martinsville Memorial Hospital for more than thirty years, where he worked diligently in the maintenance department. He also enjoyed doing woodworking jobs. In his leisure time, Henry loved being outdoors gardening, hunting, or fishing. But there was nothing he loved more than his family. His legacy of love and faith will always be remembered by those who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Elizabeth Rigney (Bobby), Christin Minter (John); son, Henry Willis Cox, Jr.; brother, Granville Cox (Pernie); granddaughter, Caroline Rigney; several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, November 2, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Gary Shupe and Pastor Irvin Clifton officiating. Interment will follow at Christian View Christian Church Cemetery, 543 Anglin Mill Road, Stoneville, North Carolina 27048. Visitation will be Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 6:00-8:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel.
