Mr. Hoyte Douglas “Doug” Gilbert, age 89 of Fieldale, peacefully passed away on Sunday, October 8, 2023.

Mr. Gilbert was born on February 12, 1934 in Henry County to the late Hoyt Itaska Gilbert and the late Helen Joyce Gilbert. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Smith, brothers, Jerry William Gilbert and James Edward Gilbert. He retired as a supervisor from DuPont with 21 years of service. After retirement, he worked at Beaver Creek Golf Course and Willow Creek Country Club.

Mr. Gilbert is survived by his wife of 57 years, JoAnne Byrd Gilbert, 2 sons, Jerry Douglas Gilbert and wife Anne Meegan of Hillsborough, NJ, Jeffrey David Gilbert of Fieldale, VA and his beloved fur babies.

A celebration of Mr. Gilberts’ life will be held Tuesday, October 17, from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Drive, Bassett, VA 24055.
