Obituaries

James “Jimmy” Waller, 75, of Bassett, Virginia, peacefully passed away at his home on Friday, June 27, 2025. He was born on February 1, 1950, in Grayson County, Virginia, to the late Ira P. Waller and Audna Fayne Waller. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Fred, Douglas, and Billy Waller; and sisters Brenda Wood and Shirley Amos.

Jimmy spent many years in the furniture industry, including 34 dedicated years with American of Martinsville and 10 years with Shenandoah Furniture, from which he eventually retired. Renowned for his craftsmanship, he had a true passion for woodworking and took great pride in creating with his hands.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 53 years, Earlene Waller; his son, Jerry Waller (Tracey); and two grandsons, Logan Waller and Eli Waller. He is also survived by two brothers, Ira “Jr.” Waller (Esther) and Charles Waller (Tammy); one sister, Jeanell Dunford; and a host of extended family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Bassett Funeral Service, with Evangelist Ira Waller, Pastor Donald Thomas, and Pastor Charles Waller officiating. The family will receive friends thirty minutes prior to the service. Interment will follow at Henry Memorial Park.
