Obituary For Jeannie Carol Gilbert
Jeannie Carol Gilbert, 68, of Bassett, Virginia, entered her heavenly home Sunday, October 26, 2025. She was born in Bassett on April 21, 1957, to the late Euell Neil Cannaday and Ollie Mae Ferguson Ingram.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepson, Randall Gilbert and her sister, Peggy Ann Cannaday.
Jeannie was of the Baptist faith and had a loving church family. She was a graduate of J.D. Bassett High School, class of 1975. She was dedicated to her work at Pluma where she worked for twenty years in quality control. Jeannie enjoyed making beautiful crafts and loved growing flowers. She was a great cook and made many delicious meals for her family and friends. She loved music and dancing. Her greatest joy was found in caring for her children and grandchildren, ensuring that her family knew they were deeply loved. Although her physical presence is no longer with us, the legacy of faith and love she left behind will forever be remembered.
Left to honor and cherish her memory are her loving husband, Elton “Randy”/”Smokey” Gilbert; daughter, Tonia Quinn (L.D.); sons, Smokey Gilbert and Payton Gilbert (Paige); sisters, Elizabeth “Libby” Turner (Buddy), Frances Farmer (Greg); Shawn Hylton; brother, David Cannaday; grandchildren, Brittany, Blaize, Logan, Haley, Bethany, Grace, Levi, Maggie, Jace, and Sophia; great grandchildren, Harper, Aviana, and Zaylee; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
A Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Collinsville Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 30, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Collinsville Baptist Church, 1670 Daniels Creek Road, Collinsville, Virginia, with Pastor David Bishop and Pastor Payton Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow at Gilbert Family Cemetery, 3688 North Fork Road, Martinsville, Virginia The family will also receive friends and family at the home. The family request flowers to be sent to Wright Funeral Service, Martinsville Chapel.
Pallbearers will be Blaize Gilbert, Logan Quinn, Levi Gilbert, Zamran Ross, Leon Cannaday, Joel Cannaday, and honorary pallbearer, Jace Quinn.
